Fencing in Mitcham.

Mitcham is a couple of miles east of us, close enough that we're over there most weeks. It's a mixed patch — Victorian and Edwardian terraces towards the north, big interwar estates further out, and a lot of gardens backing onto open ground around Mitcham Common and the old cricket green.

Backing onto open land is the detail that changes the job. A boundary with nothing to shelter it takes the wind full on, and that's where cheap panels come out of their slots first. On exposed runs we'd normally push you towards closeboard on concrete posts — built board by board, there's nothing loose for the wind to lift.
